PA Wellington Government librarians will stop work next Wednesday to discuss a back-pay dispute caused by computer problems. / ' . The Public Service Assocaition’s assistant secretary, Mr M. Coleman, said yesterday that the librarians’ problems went back to December. 1978. The P.S.A. had lodged a claim with the State Services Commission for the 476 librarians in the National General Assembly, Turnbull, and departmental libraries, but after negotiations last year, no offer was made, Mr Coleman s(»jd.
Arbitration had established some benchmarks and formal settlement was reached last Christmas Eve, giving significant improvements in addition to the 10.4 per cent annual general adjustment, he said. The commission had been asked when the back pay to December 8, 1978, plus the new rates, would be paid, Mr Coleman said. The ■ s answer was that through technical difficulties with the pay computer, it would be impossible to pay the librarians before the end of May — a five-month delay, he said.
