General forecast: The situation is very slow moving, with an intense anticyclone to the south of the Chatham Islands and a depression in the Tasman Sea. Between these two systems flows a moist north-easterly airstream which is continuing to give rain to the northern half of the North Island, and generally cloudy sides as far south as Westland and Canterbury. Some drizzle patches are likely in eastern
parts of the South Island night and morning, but it will be mainly fair in the afternoon.
