Te Pee Gold destroyed
Special correspondent New Plymouth The Hawera-owmed Te Pee Gold was destroyed after breaking a leg in a race at Pakenham, near Melbourne on Wednesday. Te Pee Gold was moving up to take the lead wi-th about 250 m to run in the 1400 m event when a tiring horse moved out and clipped his front legs. The incident caused him to fall heavily and he snapped a leg and was knocked unconscious. The six-year-old, which was being trained at Mornington by J. W .McGreal, was ridden by New Zealandi er Bob Skelton, who was i shaken up in the fall • and ’ suffered a strained wrist. J Te Pee Go! was owned by Mr M. C. Davison and his sister, Mrs E. R. Rad-' ford. The pair took over ownership of the son of Gold Sovereign and Messene on the death of their brother, Mr J. Davison. The late Mr Davison bought Tee Pee Gold at a sale in the north. In his colours he won five races, die best of them being the Triton Stakes during an unbeaten two-year-dld career. For his’ more-recent owners his best win was the Stewards’ Handicap at Riccarton which he won by a wide margin. He won $26,521,’in stakes in New Zealand and was prepared from Hawera by 8.. Hart. In Australia he had six starts for four, placings and about $2OOO.
