Much of value in new book
In his “Key Thoroughjbreds of Australia and New i Zealand” just published, an industrious Peter Pring has sought to provide a fullscale evaluation of all bloodlines to have met with success in Australia and New Zealand since 19-15. He appears to have succeeded admirably. Mr Pring’s book runs to 670 pages, and is a valuable companion volume to his earlier “Analysis of Champion Racehorses.” In his latest work Mr Pring includes the sires and dams of all foals, born from 1945 onwards, which won at least two principal races including at least one major feature event. He opens with sire and broodmare tables for both countries, then follows with the records of key sires accompanied by brief family notes. Not surprisingly Star Kingdom occupies more space than any other stallion; his contribution has been immense. But the old Trelawney patriarch. Foxbridge, is given due recognition, and Le Filou “runs” to almost two pages, with fitting recognition as sire of performers and great producers.
The list of key broodmares is also a comprehensive one, and notes on the mares’ families, although not wide-ranging, are valuable pointers. “Key Thoroughbreds of
Australia ana New Zealand” is available only from the publishers. The Thoroughbred Press, G.P.0.. Box 693. Sydney, and costs sAusi29.9s.
