A Government decision to waive electricity price controls from April 1 should not lead to large increases in power charges, according to the general manager of the Central Canterbury Electric Power Board (Mr S. E. SlatThe waiving of the Electricity Price Stabilisation Regulations, 1972, will mean that> tariffs will be set by

electricity supply authorities without the need for Government consent.

Mr Slatter said that the supply authorities would increase prices only to cover costs. The decision to waive price controls should rationalise the setting of tariffs, and lead io uniformity among electrical supply authorities, he said. ■ '
