Report on county water
A full report on the condition of Heathcote County’s water supply system might. be prepared this year. The council’s works and reserves committee .decided to recommend to the full council that a full report be made. The suggestion came during discussion of a request from some residents of Dyers Pass Road for information on the council’s intentions for the water main in the street. The residents owned
properties below the road level and water had seeped on to the properties two recent and serious breaks/ in the main. The replacement of the main would cost about $9OOO, the committee was told. ' , ' ■ The committee was about to pass a motion asking that the work be considered for inclusion in next year’s estimates when the County Chairman (Mr J. M. McKenzie)
spoke up and opposed the motion. The council could spend the money but have no idea what it was spending it on if it did not have a clear idea of the general condition of mains and other water supply' equipment in the area, he said. If there were problems the work should not be done piecemeal. Mr McKenzie called for a full report on the water supply system. The committee supported his motion.
