Armalight sound prospect at Addington tonight

By

G. K. YULE

The royally-bred Armalight will give Addington patrons their first glimpse of her prowess in the first qualifying heat of the D.B. Fillies’ Flying Stakes at the Canterbury Park meeting this evening.

The daughter of Timely Knight and the Sapling Stakes winner, Ar Miss, started her race career with a runaway win at Westport on Boxing Day. Then she showed talent far. above average when she came from a good way back to run Regal Guy to a close decision on the first day of the recent Nelson meeting. Two days later, on the same course, she looked unlucky when beaten by Treasurer in a race for three-year-olds. In that race an opening came for her when the event was virtually over and she did remarkably well for her placing. Although she has drawn badly, the Richmond filly, Bonnie Lass, could be the hardest for Armalight to beat.

Her latest racing has been in slow-class handicap events. Her part-owner and trainer, Murray Pash, was a shade disappointed with her efforts, but felt he might have been a little easy on her and is hopeful she will improve sufficiently to acquit herself to advantage. Royal Decision has shown sufficient ability to run over a merry mile and she will be a popular fancy from her handy barrier position. Eastwood Jubilee and Chantilly Belle appeal as place chances, while there will also be support for Swingalong, which has been a shade disappointing at times.

This evening's race is the first of six qualifying heats for a $21,250 final to be run at Alexandra Park on Maj' 10. The remaining two South Island heats will be run at Invercargill on February 18 and Timaru on February 23. The North Island circuit starts at a Thames meeting on March 22, followed by a

Morrinsville meeting on April 22 and a Cambridge meeting on May 2, eight nights before the final. RACE 1 FIRST COURSE TREBLE 6.5 p.m.— T. A.
