Firemen battlcd,.Jafe last evening to contain' a big fire in scrub anrf'tussock off the ' Summit Road. The fire, which." broke out at about 11.10 p.m., near : the Sign of the Bellbird, had half an hour later swept ! over about (six acres of hillside. Firemeh at first thought ;
it might have been started bv a car plunging off the Summit Road, but the car was later found to be derelict. . - . The fire was fanned bystrong winds. Three water tenders and engines from headquarters, Spreydon, Sumner and Governor’s Bay attended the blaze.
