Big three’ dominate

PA Invercargill John Woodley, Paul McLachlan and Rodger Freeth reaffirmed their reputations as top New Zealand riders by dominating the Regent motor-cycle road races at Teretonga on Sunday. The big three led the field in four races, leaving the other competitors way behind. Woodley, of Motueka, won four events — the up to 350 cu cm racing class for the national championship points, the 500 cu cm racing class, the open racing class and the up to 750 cu cm racing class. He gained second place behind McLachlan (Christchurch) in the up to 250 cu cm class.

There were few accidents and no competitors were seriously injured. Freeth (Auckland) lost control of his Suz.uki GSX 1100 in one event, was uninjured and damage to the bike was minimal.
