Central revives
PA Palmerston North Central Districts, after its dismal start to the first-class cricket season, can feel well pleased with its efforts against last year’s champion side, btago, at Palmerston North yesterday. Central Districts bowled and fielded well to dismiss Otago for 176 in only 74.4 overs, and th„n batted with freedom to score 147 for three wickets at stumps, to be in a strong position when the match restarts this morning. The catalyst for the batting revival was the former New Zealand rep-
resentative, Robert Anderson, recalled to the team for this match after declaring himself unavailable at the start of the season. Otago batted without the concentration necessary. when Warren Lees won the toss. Gleun Turner produced a gem of an innings for 42, but became one of wicket-keeper lan Smith’s four victims when he edged Denis Aberhart down the legside. Smith took an even better catch to dismiss lan Rutherford a few minutes later, and generally had a fine Jlay behind the wicket.
