Hard driving wins saloon title
Hard driving from Dennis Bolt won him the Canterbury Saloon Car title at the Woodford Glen Speedway on Sunday evening. In two of the three heats he pushed his hatch - back Torana V 8 to its limits to keep at bay opposition from the Mustang Cobra 11 of Tony Cardwell, the 350 Chev Monza of Doug Smith, Ray Granger’s Torana and Daye Sangster’s Monaro. Bolt led the last heat from start to finish in an exciting race which saw Cardwell hanging on to his rear bumper, Doug Smith completing two laps oh a blown front tyre to finish fourth and a magnificent fifth place by a B-grade saloon driver, Phil Brain, in a Cortina.
Further drama was seen on the cinder track when Peter Bradley, a relatively inexperienced stock-car driver, crashed and had to be taken to hospital with leg and arm injuries. Canterbury Saloon title,
