Rotterdam blaze kills 11
NZPA-Reuter Rotterdam Eleven people including seven children have died in a fire that gutted three flats in a converted house in the Rotterdam port area. Among the dead were a grandmother, her two daughters, and her six grandchildren aged between four and 15 years. A young nephew of the grandmother and a man also died. Five members of another family escaped from the house when a neighbour who raised the alarm kicked in the front door.
A police spokesman said firemen were investigating the cause of the blaze, which started on the ground floor. But at this stage there was no reason to consider arson.
Ten of rhe bodies have been recovered so far. The : names of the victims were not released.
