Ferrymead shambles

The framework of a new 18m by 18m engineering shed at Ferrymead Museum was destroyed by the gale that hit Christchurch on. Wednesday night. The winds also shifted the DC3 aircraft at the museum’s aeronautical section 90 degrees' off its normal placement, and caused a severe setback to restoration work on the museum’s Hudson bomber aircraft.

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve lost a few birds because of the dampness, and a few. trees also suffered but by mid-afternoon, yesterday most of the animals were under cover and things were back to normal. Orana Park animals suffered no ill effects from the storm but several trees were badly damaged. ' The bad weather caused 28 malfunctions of traffic, sig? nals in Christchurch.

These had been dealt with by 5 p.m. yesterday by the staff of Harding Signals, Ltd. The firm’s regional engineer (Mr N. A. Wells) said that the signal system was clear everywhere. Most of the problems were loss of alignment caused by the high winds he said, but some signals had suffered water damage. Vandals had removed the green light at one intersection.
