Police postings against drug trafficking
PA. Wellington Two new police postings to intensify work agairist drug trafficking were announced in Wellington yesterday. The Commissioner of Police (Mr R. J. Walton), said the appointments would intensify anti-drug and serious crime law enforcement both in New Zealand and overseas. . Detective Inspector L. D. Sinton, of Rotorua, has been appointed New Zealand’s drug and general duties liaison. officer in Australia, and Defective Chief Inspector W. ■A,,:fR. Galbraith, of Palmerston North, has been appoindrug enforcement co-or-at the police national {headquarters in Wellington.
The post in. Australia is a new' one approved by the Cabinet last October and is designed to establish closer law-enforcement ties between the two countries. “This is necessary in view of the many people with criminal records travelling’between the two countries and because of the rise of international drug trafficking,” Mr Walton said. In the other post, also newly established, Mr Galbraith will work within the headquarters’ crime directorate and will co-ordinate national drug work in conjunction with the Drug Intelligence Bureau-and the police Criminal Intelligence Section.
