Train went against red light
PA Auckland! A head-on collision oetween two passenger trains! at Otahuhu yesterday morn- | ing that put two persons in j hospital briefly and injured six others was caused by one! of the trains going against a red light. A preliminary - report showed that the PapakuraAuckland train hit the Ota-ihuhu-Auckland train, which (was turning on a triangle at the Otahuhu yards. The accident happened at] 7.41 a.m. Two persons were] (taken to hospital but were] (later discharged. All the injured people were on the Papakura train, which had about 60 passengers on it. The Otahuhu train carried about eight railway workers. The tram carriages were not seriously damaged but two railways lines were closed until 9.30 a.m. A full departmental inquiry is under way and is expected to be completed in about two weeks.
