Woman crushed
A woman died when she was thrown from a car and crushed in an accident at the intersection of Brougham Street and Wilsons Road, Waltham, about 10.40 a.m. yesterday. She was Shirley Joyce Hocking, aged 53, married, rrf 23 Walton Street, Sydenham. St John ambulancemen said the car in which Mrs Hocking was travelling had rolled over on top of her after the two-car collision. Her husband, Richard Charies Hocking, aged 64, the driver of the car, was treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged. His brother. Garland Hocking, aged 57, was also treated and discharged. The driver of the other car was not injured. The road toll for the official holiday period reached six yesterday after a cyclist hit by a truck on Thursday died in Whangarei Base Hospital. He was Arthur David Nordstrand, aged 18, single, an un“mployed farmhand, of Whangarei.
