Lasse Viren honoured
NZPA London Lasse Viren of Finland twice the winner of the Olympic distance double, has been overwhelmingly voted the top male athlete of the 19705. The poll was conducted by the British “Athletics Weekly,” whose readers gave Viren, the gold medallist in
the 5000 and 10,000 m at both the Munich and Montreal Olympic Games, 49 per cent of their votes. Runner-up was the Russian triple jumper, Viktor San\ - eyev, with 14 per cent, and the American hurdler. Ed Moses, and the Jamaican sprinter. Don Quarrie. tied for third with 12 per cent.
