j Close neighbours, but! strong rivals at home,| Queensland and New South) Wales appear certain to occupy the limelight when the! Defry’s International Festival; of Water Polo draws to its! conclusion. As section play neared its! end at Queen Elizabeth II jPark yesterday, these two; I teams stood at the heads of | ■ their sections, both with four: [wins from as many matches; and they seem certain to stay there when section play concludes this morning. The other unbeaten teams: after the first day, Hutt and' Wharenui, both tumbled to New South Wales, a team rich in experience but with some younger players of dis- . tinct promise. : In Section B. Queensland A ' had no problems, though its ' 10-0 win against Universities, a composite side, was an in- ) dication of the considerable development of the very
lyoung home team. It was : 'later to hold a 3-3 parity with/ jMaranui into the second! ,[quarter before falling to su-t ijperior strength and experi-h ■ i ence. ■I In the same section, two of I) [New Zealand’s top clubs, [’ [Maranui and Beckenhami Sockburn, had successful I build-ups to their key club! I match late this morning. The ‘ I very physical Beckenham- | Sockburn team started a diffi- ) cult day for the Australian < secondary schoolboys with an|i 8-4 win, the schoolboys laterj! bowing to Queensland too.
