Tui’s Lass appeals in first leg at Washdyke
Bv
W. R. CARSTON
1 ui's Lass and Windvale Beau will he a popular combination for the T.A.B. double on the first day of the South Canterbury Jockey Club's summer meeting at Washdyke today. i
Tui’s Lass, one of the topranked fillies in her age group last season, will be going for her first victory as a four- > ear-old in the $15,000 DB Timaru Cup and Windvale Beau is expected to keep a consistent record moving in the A R. Waugh Handicap Tui s Lass showed that she was fast approaching peak form again when fourth in
the weight-for-age James Hazlett Stakes on her home course last Saturday. That race at Wmgatui will have also proved valuable if Judge Obadiah and The Fantasy are again heavily involved in today’s finish. These two were the best, in that order, behind Candyboy in the Hazlett Stakes.. Flying View, from Orari. and the Washdyke stable-'
mates. Grey Way and Lejano.! are also likely to have a: strong following and al-, though the distance is a bit short of her best Riccarton’sl Blue Sage must rate some’ sort of consideration. Windvale Beau. whose three starts this season have yielded two minor placings and a last-start victory, is sure to be at cramped odds I in the second leg.
The Washdyke . trained , four-year-old stands out in a .field sadly lacking in strong form runners. Perhaps, the hardest for him to beat will Gold Refrain or Sharebroker while t|ie best of the others are likely to be Keeko ior River Lady which, although lacking recent form, both possess their fair share ’ of pace.
