Now being trained by Neville Begg at Randwick and ridden by Ron Quinton, she eased from 5-to-2 to start at 5-to-l. i But despite the lack of :support, Shan Lan showed herself to be a class above an otherwise fairly ordinary field and won by two lengths from Bally Filou. with Swift Empress a further half-a-length away, third. Quinton settled Shan Lan in second place early and shot to the lead on the turn. Begg said Shan Lan was superbly bred and there was every prospect of her developing into a contender for i the A.J.C.
