No great gulf between Beaumont and Ellerslie

It might be a long way from Beaumont to Auckland, but in the racing sense the gap is not always that wide.
Two years ago Catastrophe won the Ashley Powell Memorial at Beaumont, and at his next start slammed some highly-regarded northern sprinters in the Auckland
Racing Club’s Newmarket Handicap. Nyah, winner of the Powell Memorial for Brydon Mill’s Riccarton stable last Saturday, will also be aiming for rich Ellerslie sprint races, including the Newmarket, if suitable travelling arrangements can be made for her.
Nyah kept her winning record intact in two starts this season when she got up to beat The Stewards winner
Panagor, in the 1200 m feature sprint at Beaumont. The much-improved Alvaro mare had started the season successfully in her one start at the Westland meeting last month, and she ran right up to a dashing track sprint when she triumphed at Beaumont. If suitable travelling arrangements cannot be made for a trip north Nyah will probably do her New Year
