Business with Japan to double?
New Zealand and Japanese trade is likely to double soon, according to the leader of the Japanese economic mission (Mr S. Koga). The mission was in Christchurch on the last stage tour. Mr Koga, a counsellor for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, was in New Zealand with 15 other top businessmen to tighten existing trade connections and to survey possible new trade ventures. No new business had been found, but each businessman had successfully furthered trade connections, and new trade developments would result, Mr Koga said. Business between the two countries would improve significantly. But to improve trade, New Zealand must diversify the products made from its natural resources, both for exports to Japan and elsewhere, he said. New Zealand needed better development techniques and good labour.
