Fifth win of season for consistent Glenwright
From
P. J. MEIN
in Timaru
Glenwright continued the remarkable run this season for his ownertrainer. Freeman Holmes, when he triumphed in a multi-sided finish to the Highfield Handicap, feature race at Timaru yesterday.
The Armbro Hurricane gelding has now won five races from nine starts since he joined the Holmes stable in October. Glenwright which was handily placed on the outer mostly, loomed up wide on the tum and finished too well for Truant Lass beating her by a neck, with half a length to Kheredin a gallant third. Merry Chase, wide in the fourth line ran on solidly for fourth, with Carnival King close up fifth. The second favourite. Good Going broke badly soon after the start, but recovered well to finish tenth. Winfield Lord leant a family touch to the second leg of the double when he held
out several late challenges to win the West End Handicap. The five-year-old owned by Mrs Pauline O’Reilly was a gift horse from her husband, Pat O’Reilly, who trains the gelding at Highbank. To make the victory complete Winfield Lord was driven in competent fashion, by Kerry O’Reilly, son of the owner. Winfield Lord raced to the lead early in the act, and sprinted gamely when the challenges came, to hold a half length advantage over the fast finishing Chileno at the line. Wee Willow, which trailed on the inner held third, with Flying Princess never in the clear an unlcky fourth.
