New lunch-time restaurant

"• A new lunch time res- ■ taurant called Soup Plus • opens next week on the 1 ground floor of Insignis — House at 194 Cashel •' Street central to the *. Christchurch business • area. • The hosts, Michele and . Terry Porter, have culled • many of the ideas for ’ Soup Plus from Sydney . where they were living until this year. Terry, who *' until two years ago was • an actor both in London .and Sydney, is originally ’ from Christchurch. According to the hosts, -Soup Plus is a restaurant • ‘catering for people who ' want something a bit different, something in between a quick lunch and a three course meal. The restaurant will specialise in soups and light lunches. There will be four special healthy, wholesome soups of the day and these will be garnished with croutons and sour cream and served in either medium or large portions with crusty French bread or brown bread. The menu, which will be inscribed each day on a - blackboard, includes ’ Quiche, a selection of home-made pate and terrine, fresh green tossed salad, cold rare roast beef, a cheese board, fresh fruit

salad and specialty cakes such as Gateau, Carrot cake and Hummingbird cake. Fresh Euopean coffee will also be served. There is no waitress service. customers queue for quick service. Although the menu is quite small the selection should be enough to satisfy lunch time appetites. “Eye appeal’’ will be a particular feature of Soup

Plus. Not only is the food attractive, the restaurant also has a fresh appealing atmosphere. The walls are finished in natural pine with matching tables and chairs to seat up to 50 people. Mirrors framed also in pine and paintings by Grant Bambury and Robert McDowell feature on the walls. The owners have applied for a b.y.o. licence

and eventually hope to get a licence for serving wine by the glass and by the carafe. The restaurant will be open from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday but will also be open for dinner with a similar menu, on Friday nights. Morning and . afternoon teas will also be served, with Danish pastries as a speciality.
