Open Dav plans progressing

Planning is progressing for what may be the biggest open day ever held at the Port of Lyttelton on March 2 next year. A considerable number of organisations are planning to I mount static displays at the 'port and many active displays are scheduled as well. Viewing will be open from 10 aan. to 4Ju p.m. Among those who have indicated their participation are the New Zealand Army, Customs Department. Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Police (including the Police Band), Ministry of Transport, Railways, Fire Service, Export Institute of New {Zealand, St John Ambulance, 'United States Navy. Christchurch I Road Transport Association. Andrews and Beaten. Ltd. shipping | and oil companies, the Royal I New Zealand Navy, and members of the Canterbury Manufaiturers’ Association. | Active displays will be con- ■ ducted by some of the above in addition to the Sumner Lite {Boat Association. Lyttelton Fish lermen’s Association, Waterfront .Industry Commission, Lvttelton I Museum Society. Lyttelton BoI rough Council, and the Lvttel- | ton Businessmen s Association In addition, active displays will be mounted by the Department of Trade and Industry, the Lvttelton chapter of Round Table, Lyttelton Coast Guard, and the Tug Lyttelton Preservation Society. The combined Lyttelton Rotary and Lions clubs plan a fair to raise funds for the Lyttelton subcentre of the St John Ambulance Association. The Lyttelton Harbour Board’s commercial manager and convener of the open day (Mr J. B. Graham) said: “It is anticipated that the New Zealand Railways Department and Christchurch Transport Board will, between them, be able to offer sufficient services to cater for the majority of visitors.” A number of displays will be in the Ferry Terminal Building which has been virtually unused since the Rangatira was taken off the inter-island service. Circumstances permitting, the Lyttelton Fishermen’s Association plans to sell fresh fish from trawlers at the low-level breast- ; work.
