Children killed

Two young children were killed and their mother is critically injured after their car and a truck collided on the road between Springston and Rolleston yesterday afternoon. The mangled wreckage of the small car crashed into a pole after the accident, and brought down an 11,000-volt power line. The children killed were were Vicky Ann Fenemor, aged nine, of 54 Brookside Road, Rolleston; and her younger brother Michael John Fenemor, aged three.

Their mother, Mary Joanne Fenemor, aged 30. the driver of the car. was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital with severe head and chest injuries. She was reported to be in a serious condition in the intensive-care unit late last evening. The two children were killed instantly in the accident, at the intersection of the Springston-Rolles-ton Road and Rattletrap Road at 3.8 p.m. The driver of the truck, Jeffrey Murray Kennett, aged 23, of 18 Chapman

Street, Leeston, was treated at the Christchurch Hospital for mmor injuries and later discharged. Two ambulances, an ambulance control car, and a doctor from Lincoln attended the accident scene. North Canterbury Electric Power Board staff and Post Office linemen were called in after the power pole toppled across a telephone line disrupting telephone communication in the area. Power and telephone links had been restored by last evening.
