Fishing guide
Trout Fishing in New Zealand. Rex Forrester. Whitcoulls Publishers. $12.95. Thousands of New Zealanders love fishing, and, with no little justification, trout fishing in this country is highly regarded throughout the world. Rex Forrester, an ardent conservationist who has spent his life in the backblocks and who pioneered safari-style expeditions for tourists in New Zealand, has written a beautifullypresented guide to trout fishing in this country. Rivers, streams and lakes throughout New Zealand from north to south are listed and given comprehensive coverage in the 207-page book, and are often accompanied by some marvellous photographs and a witty yam or two. Other sections include advice on tackle and lures, tips for visiting anglers unfamiliar with the terrain, rules and regulations governing trout fishing and — a delight for the gourmet — several mouthwatering recipes for cooking and smoking the catch. ‘Trout Fishing in New Zealand” is a worth-while addition to any fisherman’s library, as well as to the kitchen of any fisherman’s uala.
