China Syndrome
The China Syndrome, by Burton Wohl. Distributed by Gordon and Gotch. $2.95. Another “book of the film,” this time a fastmoving drama, fiction which almost became fact in the United States of America earlier this year. A nuclear reactor that is unstable; a nightmare race against time to prove to the authorities that a cover-up scandal was taking place in Southern California. “Big Business” and its vested interests were about to unleash
something that was so big it could blow the state skyhigh. Only a handful of people really know what the China Syndrome is, and ace reporter Kimberly Wells and camera-man Richard Adams have the task of collating the facts and presenting them to the nation, quickly. The thought that ran through my mind whilst reviewing this book was “could it really happen?” and my answer to myself after I finished the book was, “too damned right it could.”
