Philippines win bridge
NZPA-Reuter Tokyo The Philippines yesterday won the women’s team competition of the twenty-third Far East Bridge championship at Tokyo with a total of 65.43 points. The Philippines team, which beat Singapore 6.151.85 in the fourteenth and final round, was composed of Chu Chay Laguaroia, Rose Unson, Helen Tubangui, Tina Del Gallego, Florence Yap and Rudy Santiago, with Vic Santiago as the non-playing captain.
Thailand beat India 5.93 2.07 in the final round for
second place with 60.58 points, followed by Australia, who beat Taiwan 6.731.27 for a total of 59.80 points.
In the men’s competition, Indonesia beat Singapore, 8-0, and kept its lead with 128.83 against 79.77 average points after 20 of the scheduled 22 rounds. Pakistan was In second place with 126.23 points, followed by Australia with 102.25 points. Australia lost to India, 0.36-7.64/ in the twentieth round yesterday. India moved to fourth with 90.05, followed by
Japan, 89.91, Hong Kong, 88.39, and New Zealand. 87.51. The defending champion, Taiwan, was in eignth place with 74.70. The totals of other teams were the Philippines, 72.03. Thailand, 57.88, Singapore, 25.18, and South Korea, 14.29.
