R.S.A. bowls qualifiers
Alan Charteris (Papanui) and Bernie MacManus (South Brighton) were the successful skips at the Christchurch elimination for the national R.S.A. bowls tournament piaved last week-end. Charteris’s team is Hori Brock, Les Jackson and Spencer Meechen, while MacManus is partnered by Bob Tolen, Vern Reade and Morrie Hayes. Both teams will get
an all-expenses paid trip to Tauranga for the national play-off in March. Charteris beat MacManus in the Christchurch final, but as the entry was more than 50 teams — 57, in fact — the runner-up also gets a trip to Tauranga. MacManus has a fine record in the event, having been the Christchurch | winner on no less than five 'occasions.
