Warning to campers

PA Invercargill Campers have been warned to keep clear of the Hawea River’s bed between December 8 to 19 because flows could increase suddenly without warning while the Manapouri power station is shut down. Fishermen are also warned to ensure they have a safe retreat in the event of rising water.

The district engineer of the Electricity Division (Mr D. H. Jones) said yesterday that the closing of Manapouri was to allow completion of maintenance work on the draught tube isolating gates that had been started in January.
