PA Wellington The memory of New Zea-1 land s worst air disaster hung over the prize-presentation ceremony for the Air New Zealand-Shell Open golf i championship yesterday. Air New Zealand’s chief executive, Mr M. R. Davis, made his first public appear-: ance at the windv Heretaunga golf course since the, DC 10 crash on Wednesday. In a speech which referred to the ‘ dark cloud of tragedv which will be over us for tame time to come. Mr Davis hanked players and officials for carrying on the tournament. "Id like to acknowledge the people from Air New Zealand who staved down here, when under the circumstance* thev probably would have preferred to be in the operations and communications centre,” h? said. Mr Davis also thanked the chairman of the Shell group (M- D. H. Tudhope) and ptavers for carrying on with th" tournament. winner, David Graham (Australia) expressed sympathy on behalf of all players in the tournament to Mr and Mrs Davis.
