Sydenham extends lead
Sydenham increased its lead in the senior women’s cricket competition by beating St Albans in a limited over match on Saturday. Batting first. Sydenham scored 122 in its allotted 40 overs. The top scorers were Lorraine Langan 24. and Pat Carrick 23 not out.
St Albans made an excellent start with its openers, Denise Jellev and Ann McKenna, scoring 28 and 41. However, fine bowling by the New Zealand representative, Sue Brown, who took five for 14 off eight overs, kept St Albans 23 runs short of its target. Riccarton scored its first win of the season in an exciting match against Lancaster Park.
After losing Debbie Hockley early, Park batted slowly and finished at 112 for one; Jenny Olson was unbeaten on 48, and Kathryn Perry was not out on 46. Riccarton. which had collapsed in ail its innings to date this season, started its chance in fine style and a grand innings of 70 not out by Sue Rattray enabled it to overhaul the total with two overs left. Willis 14 not out) beat New Brighton 46 (K. Ware 13; J. Brown 2/17, Millichip 2/10, K. Marsh. 2/6. S. Claxton 4/5). Burnside-West University 38/3 (I. Beijen 13. C. Keenan 12) beat Sydenham 36 (G. Nuttall 14, P. Beveridge 10; Keenan 3/3, R. Clark 3/14). THIRD GRADE St Albans 103/5 (C. Bond 60. M. Amai 32; M. French 2/23) beat Lancaster Park 66 (B. Tipa 15, L Ward 19, D. Samson 17; Bond 4/21, Amai 2/18).
