Stamp issue to mark Parliamentary talks

On November 26 the New Zealai.l Post Office released a set of three stamps to commemorate the twenty-fifth Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Wellington. It is established custom for the country which is host to the conference to release a specia* stamp

issue on the opening day. A three-stamp issue was released when New Zealand last played host to the conference in 1965. The 14c stamp shows the chamber of the House of Representatives, looking towards the Speaker’s chair. The ornate parliamentary mace appears on the 20c stamp.

Depicted on the 30c stamp is the colourful wail-hanging which dominates the foyer of the Beehive. Don Hatcher, of Auckland, prepared the graphic work and also designed tiie first-day cover. The stamps measure 30.55 mm x 38mm and are in vertical format. They

were printed by John Wa- dington of Kirkstall, England, by lithography. Unless stocks are exhausted earlier, these stamps will remain on sale at post offices until February 5, 1980, and at the Philatelic Bureau, Private Bag, Wanganui (mail orders) and philatelic sales offices until June 30, 1980.
