Experiment worthwhile
The experiment of playing the Shell Cup knock-out match between Canterbury and Otago at Hagley Oval last Sunday had been well; worthwhile, the Canterbury, Cricket Association’s treasurer (Mr Dave Gallop) said at last evening’s meeting of the management committee. Mr Gallop reported that the gross gate had been a! little under Si9oo and that, match expenses would be considerably lower than they
■ would have been at Lancast ler Park. , In addition, a profit of [about $9OO, which is to be 1 1 shared with the clubs which I [assisted in the administration of the game, had been 'reaped from the booths [ around the ground. [ Both Mr Gallop and the management committee chairman. Mr John Knowles, suggested that the oval 'lwould be an ideal venue for •similar fixtures in the ! future. The attendance was ' about 2000.
