Members of gang ’do as told'
I PA Auckland ■ The important thing about I a gang was that its members I did what they were told, said ; the Crown prosecutor, Mr P. J. Smith has said in the (Supreme Court at Auckland. [ Quoting a gang member, Mr Smith said: “When we are told to hit, we hit.” He ■ added. “And I am not talk- [ ing about a slap in the face.” ( He was opening the Crown I case against 14 members of! I the Storm Troopers , gang ■ charged with offences arising I from incidents in Northland j in August which culminated in a battle with the police at Moerewa. The trial, which is expected to last at least two weeks, is before Mr Justice Speight and a jury. A number of policemen were injured, one seriously, in the fracas at Moerewa. A ; police van was set on fire, a I fireman injured, and a fire engine damaged.
