Assault ‘unpardonable’
{ PA Auckland | A young man who hit a ! woman with a skateboard, punched her, and assaulted a friend who tried to help her has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for his “unpardonable” ac- ' tions. Gavin Howard Leoni, aged 19, of Morningside, who appeared before Mr J. B. Bergin, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at [ Auckland was convicted [ on two charges Of assault- { ing a female. ( The Magistrate ordered
that after his term of imprisonment he be put on probation for a year. He said the defendant had hit the complainant on the head with his skateboard and then punched her with a closed fist. He had then assaulted another girl who tried to stop him. The Magistrate said Leoni’s counsel had referred to possible provocation. It might be, said the Magistrate, that somebody made a remark, or even laughed, but the defendant’s actions were unpardonable.
