THE NORTH CANTERBURY ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY ATTENTION ALL FISHERMEN AN AMENDMENT No. 1 to the Freshwater fisheries Regulations (North Canterbury) Modification Notice 1978 was gazetted bv the Minister Of Agriculture and Fisheries on October 30, 1979. This Amendment will come into force as from December 1. 1979, and adds the following restrictions to those already in force. fa) RESTRICTIONS ON LURES AND METHODS Clause 5(c): No person in fishing for acclimatised fish shall — (iv) Use artificial minnow in the Kaiapoi River and its tributaries upstream of the Williams Street Bridge. (b) OPEN SEASON EXCEPTIONS Clause s(d) (iv) (5), which stated that no person shall fish for, nor take. Salmon during the months of March and April in the Kaiapoi and Cam Rivers, or any tributary of those rivers, above the Motorwav Bridge. HAS NOW BEEN REVOKED AND REPLACED BY THE FOLLOWING: 5(d): No person shall fish — (v) During the months of February, March and April, not take during those months. Quinnat Salmon in the Kaiapoi and Cam Rivers, or any tributary of those rivers, upstream of the Williams Street Bridge. All fishermen are urged to take notice of these alternations to the existing Regulations now in force, as they are an attempt to protect the salmon fishery, and the induced salmon run project at the Silverstream Hatchery. By excluding artificial minnow, and extending the seasonal ban on salmon fishing in the Kaiapoi River System, the Silverstream project will have a greater opportunity for success leading to better recreational fishing in the future. It should be noted, that TROUT fishing has NOT been affected by this Amendment. B. F. WEBB. Chief Executive Officer/Secretary.
