New Zealand expertise in the management of resort hotels is to be used in a $7.5 million Australian hotel development at Coolangatta, on Queensland’s Gold Coast. The New Zealand based “Inns of the Pacific” will manage the “New Greenmount” hotel for the Brisbane company Greenmount Developments Pty, Ltd. t is believed that this is the first time a New Zealand hotel group has won such a management contract in Australia, although Inns of the Pacific is currently operating 14 hotels and resorts in New Zealand, and five in Fiji.
“Naturally enough we are very pleased that a division of the trans group has shown such initiative,” says Mr Don Mundell, executive director, tourism, of UEB Industries, Ltd, (of which the Trans group is a sub- ' sidiary). ;The “New Greenmount” is in I the final stages of construc- | tion, and is scheduled to be I opened in Anril next year. I It has 152 rooms, a restaurant, two swimming ' pools, bars, disco, and two indoor entertainment areas. Built on a promontory it commands sweeping views of the coast and the Tweed River. It is also just 100 meters from the NewSouth Wales border and the clubs which attract
I such stars as; Sammy Davis jnr. Mr Mundell rays the New Greenmount is one of the more significant developments on thw Gold Coast for a number of years. “It is the first hotel to be built there for quite some time. Most of the recent building has been associated with such things as condominiums. “We intend that the New Greenmount 'will achieve the free living style which is associated m 'ith the Gold Coast but wf rich seldom materialises. “Some clever sarchitectural design provides three types of accommodation: there are rooms which will appeal to youiiger people, larger units [for family groups, and rsuites for couples. “Also, with a clone proximity to the airport iS will be an ideal hotel to ibe used in airline tour programmes,” Mr Mundell sa\«.
