The former California Governor, Ronald Reagan, has beaten back a formidable; challenge by John Connally at Florida’s Republican * Party convention to snatch first place in a non-binding! informal ballot viewed as an early test of strength in the battle for the United Sates: Presidency. Depending on how the results were inter-! preted. either Mr Connally, a former Texas Governor, or an Illinois Congressman, Philip Crane, took second* place. — Orlando (Florida). i
