Exciting karting
Some exciting racing eventu-| a ted when the second round of : the Christchurch Kart Club’s , $6OO 3ZB series was contested at ! Carrs Road on Sunday. The points leaders from the 1 previous series were under i pressure in the 100 cu cm Me- i Culloch class. Phillip Burgess 1 found the pressure too much ; and blew his engine trying to hold his points lead. The re- ’ placement engine seemed to lack power and he finished well down ; i in the 15-kart field. Murray Davies turned out to be the over-all winner of the class though he was beaten in : two of the teams, by Vickie ; Rouse and Gasin Hawker. The gearbox class continued : to be a battle between Paul 1 Crichton and Robin Heron, but the surprise was Derek Wilson who has obtained some very ; ••hot” gear for his Honda. Wilson was right up with the other two. leaving the remaining drivers to fight out the minor : placings. Some great battles marked the < open class. In one heat the lead ; changed 10 times between Doug Sims and John Bell—but it was •. Sims who won the most of the clashes.
| Three midget karts did a numbers of demonstration runs and then had a race over three; laps at the end of the meeting.' It was like watching a normal! kart race in slow motion, but! none of the drivers gave anv quarter. The class is for eight] •to 12-year-olds racing very! restricted karts and engines. | Results of the main events! were:— Wales and Beadle Wed Trophy i Race: D. Kircher 1, J. Hawker 2, I G.
