Flyer gives her awards to museum
PA Auckland The veteran aviator, Miss Jean Batten, has given all her medals and awards to the Museum of Transport and Technology in Auckland. Miss Batten, who is 70, and was born in Rotorua, became famous for her trailblazing flights, decided to
make New Zealand a present of her collection. A museum spokesman said he was delighted to receive, among other things, the pocket-sized Union Jack and New Zealand flag Miss Batten always carried on her flights. A large cup, the Segreave Trophy, was awarded to her
in 1936 for her flight from Britain to New Zealand. Lindberg and KingsfordSmith have been other recipients of the cup. Miss Batten has also given to the museum the decoration she received in 1936 when made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
