Late sport Old Collegians penalised

Lancaster Park, a team with an excellent record In “The Pi-ess” twilight cricket tournament. has taken the lead aiter two rounds of the competition, which was played at Hospital Corner last evening. However, it should have been the joint leader with Old Collegians on 25 points. Old Collegians and another club both forfeited three points because of players not wearing the proper attire. The standard of dress has been laid down in the rules and two teams failed to adhere to the regulations. Most matches were relatively evenly-fought and Lancaster Park, which just managed to beat East-Shirley by three runs in the first round, had another tight contest against Sydenham, winning by 10 runs with Wayne Wilson having the exeellent figures of four for 11. Rlccarton compiled the impressive total of 127 for three with two batsmen retiring and the Canterbury representative, Lindsay Thorn being unbeaten on 29. Suburban, the leader after the first round, reached three figures, but was thwarted by the bowling of the Murdoch brothers. Tim and Tony, who both claimed two wickers. Old Collegians was another side to score freely and lost only two wickets against High School Old Boys. Richard Leggat scored 35 before retiring and Vaughan Brown was not out 32. Old Boys failed bv 18 runs to overtake that total with David Leggat too scoring with 31. CoUn Hight, taking four for nine, restricted supporters to 82 for seven against East-Shirley. East-Shirley was in some danger of losing with five wickets down and still 11 runs behind.
