Electric heat for library
Night-storage electric heatling for the new Christchurch central city library will cost $38,000 more to install than the oil system originally planned. But the system’s annual running cost, $2400, will be less than the $3lOO of diesel oil heating, the City Council’s cultural committee was told yesterday. Furthermore, future oil shortages might prevent its use for space heating. Although the capital cost of electric heating would be less, annual running costs would be too high. The committee recommended night [storage. ( Local metal will now be used in library ductwork, at an extra cost of $22,800. An import licence for imported, jointless wide metal for the ducts was refused by the Government.
