Gas charges rise again
Gas charges in Christchurch have risen for the second time in two months with an announcement this week-end of increases of up to 2 per cent. The latest increase applies retrospectively from November 1 and means the price of domestic gas will have risen by almost 18 per cent in the last 12 months. Gas tariffs have changed four times since November, 1978. Domestic rates were reduced by 10 per cent in December,
1978, increases of between 7.5 per cent and 8.5 per cent were applied after last June, and tariffs rose by between 9 per cent and 19 per cent last September. The latest increase is 9c a 1000 cu ft. The new rates a 1000 cu ft are:— Domestic ordinary, $4.86; storage water-heat-ing, $4.43. Industrial and commercial ordinary, $5.70; concession, $5.50; spaceheating. $8.29; water-heat-ing, $6.99.
