NZPA Canberra Australia’s tourist industry boomed last year: a record 631,000 visitors arrived in the country, almost a third of them
New Zealanders. The visitors spent a total of $414 million, according to the annual report of the Australian Tourist Commission. A total of 200,186 tourists flew the Tasman to
Australia, a rise of 23 per cent over 1977. The remarkable increase in visitors from New Zealand was a big factor contributing to the over-all tourism growth, the Commission said.
