Richmond residents alarmed
Alarmed residents called the police after an armed man was seen strolling up and down Alexandra Street, Richmond, early last evening. The man was still on the footpath, carrying what residents believed to be a rifle or a shotgun, when the police cordoned the street scon after 5 p.m. While the Christchurch police armed offenders squad was in the process of being called out, the man gave himself up to uniformed constables. They took possession of an air rifle. The man, aged 23, will appear in the Magistrate's Court this morning charged with posse ssi n g an offensive weapon. A police spokesman said the man had become upset after arguing across the street with neighbours. No shot was fired.
