Softball squad
With the South Island tournament for the Jefferies Cup only five days away the main worry of the Canterbury men’s softball coach, Mr Dennis Rea, is the fitness of his key pitcher, David Bradbury. Bradbury, a’ member of the large national squad, has pulled tendons in the wrist of his pitching arm, though he can sti.ll hurl reasonably quickly. Mr Rea said in announcing the Jefferies Cup squad of 16 yesterday that he was keen to win the tournament. “But I’d rather sacrifice the Jefferies than risk harming Dave.” If Bradbury does have to
be keep largely under wraps during the tournament —< at Papanui Domain this week-end — then Canter* bury should still be well* served as the second-string, Geoff Roberts, had been in grand form recently. The full squad is:—< Bradbury, Tony Mountford, Bryan Mountfo’rd, Bill Rintoul, Paul McFarlane, Fife (Ja.s-United); Ray Marsh, Alan Hall, Michael Hall, John Daly (Jaks-United City); Eric Tomlinson, Dale Eagar, Roberts, Gordon Phillips (Papanui); Kevin Steel, Doug Chee (Richmond). Squad training will be at Papanui Domain tomorrow and Thursday, 5.30 p.m.
