N.Z. women draw with Japan A
TPA Tokyo The New Zealand women's softball team drew with Japan A and was beaten by Japan B in baek-tc-back games in the final section of the Japanese World Cup Games in Tokyo yesterday. New Zealand was not expected by the organisers to reach the final section, so the no-score draw with Japan A was creditable. After nine innings, lots were drawn to find the winner, the result going in Japan’s favour. Vicky Murray started off in grand style, hitting a three-bag-ger with two down in the first. She collected another hit in the ninth, again with two down.
Rana Phillips amd Kathv Hall also took safe hits from thd Japanese pitcher j Debbie Mygtnd was In grand 'form, glxing four safe hits, one walk and taking three stnki outs. Japan B took an early twonn load when New Zealand allowet I the first three batters on. How ever, its play tightened .rd ’■< New Zealanders delighted the crowd with two classy uouo.e plays. Mygind gave up three hits ■while Robyn Storer and PhlLlpt took hits for New Zealand. ' New Zealand win meet the United States in Its final game oi I the tournament.
