Mitchell 1st in one-hour
Don Mitchell <Q.E. Athletic) easily won the Canterbury road running committees one-hour track race at Queen Elizabeth II Park on Saturday. Mitchell, best known for his braliant second placing in the 1979 New Brighton 50 mile race yen by the Australian Don Gillie, took the lead in the first lan and lapped the rest of the small field at least twice to cover a total distance of just over 16km in the hour. There were only 10 com-i t?titors in the race, two ofj horn withdrew. Results: Mitchell. 40 laps 172 m ‘ 1; G. Haszrad 'Methodist) 38 laps 48m 2; R. McLean (Christchurch) I I" laps 243 m 3 and Ist veteran. i
